Weekend Birthday Haul

As you know from this earlier post, Saturday my mother-in-law Cindy, sister-in-law Holly, and I went on a “shopping spree” to celebrate my birthday. As much as I wanted to challenge myself by shopping places other than Old Navy, we ended up there and I scored the majority of my birthday haul. It was almost ordained by Heaven and impossible to resist because of their 30% off storewide sale over the weekend.

We first stopped at Maurice’s where I found this lovely pair of studs on clearance for only $2.99!

Then we stopped at JC Penny’s for Cindy to find a pair of new dress pants for work. There I picked up these two tops. The first is a long-sleeve button-up flannel shirt by St. John’s Bay and the second is a Boyfriend cardigan by Liz Claiborne, which hits about thigh-length on me since I’m only 5’3″. The back of the SJB button-up is about an 1-2 inches longer than the front, which makes it pair great with my black skinnies.

We hit several shoe stores in between JCP and Old Navy. Cindy and HJ had great success; however, I did not. I was on the lookout for a new black handbag but just couldn’t find one that I “just had to have” which is my selling point on most items I buy now. I guess it’s a new thing in my older age.

And lastly, my finds from Old Navy. I adore my new flats and have worn them almost non-stop since I bought them. And yes, I know I’m late on the chambray fad, but in my defense, like the black handbag, I just haven’t been able to find one that I knew I “just had to have” until I found this one. It’s the perfect shade between light denim and dark denim. And the skinny jeans, were more of a necessity buy. The only other pairs of jeans I have are my boot cut jeans, boyfriend jeans, and my maternity skinny jeans. And God knows I have vowed no more pregnancies. Two is good enough for me. Any more babies will be adopted.

Also, Jimmy, if you read my blog, just get me a gift card from ON for my Christmas gift because I left behind a green sweater that I’m literally mourning over. Thank you, sir!

OldNavy Birthday WishList

OldNavy Birthday WishList

My 27th birthday was Tuesday and Wednesday my mother-in-law and sister-in-law surprised me with a shopping spree and take-out dinner for this coming Saturday. It’s no secret that I love Old Navy, so I automatically decided that would be our first stop. However, if I did in fact go there first, all my birthday shopping spree money would be blown there and that would be the end of said shopping spree. So instead my plan is to make it my last stop/last resort kind of thing if I can’t find anything anywhere else. Obviously I did scope out Old Navy and put this together to share what I would buy if I did/do end up there.
Where would you suggest? The only other places on my list right now are Maurices and TJ Maxx.

Pinspiration Outfits for Fall

{These were all taken from Pinterest. Each image links back to pin and source, in case you would like to save for yourself.}

Essentially, I’m loving boots, oversized sweaters, tights, and chunky scarves. Lace and leather. Tulle and plaid. Big knits and always, always floral.

Did I mention I dyed my hair red?

What I’m wearing
– Merona sweater dress: $8 (online exchange)
– infinity scarf: $0 (self-made from one of Matthew’s old t-shirts)
– leggings: $4 from Body Central (a few years ago)
– boots: $198 from Canvas by Lands’ End (Christmas gift)
– earrings: $5 (fundraiser jewelry sale)

Wearing My Steals #2

I have been scouring sales, clearance racks, websites, even thrift stores for a pair of gladiator sandals. It’s one trend that once I started seeing around I wanted to jump on (like the chain bracelets here). It took me almost the entire summer to find them, but they were oh so worth the wait.

If you’re a subscriber of Totsy, you’re aware they have merged with Modnique and received a $20 off promo code to use on a purchase from the new site. Originally, these Michael Antonio Dee Sandals were $45.00, on sale for $22.00 at Modnique. With $5.99 for shipping and the remaining $2.00 on the sale price, I paid a total of $7.99 for theses beauties. And like the chain bracelet, I am in love. I paired them with a solid white fitted tee and yellow floral maxi skirt to wear to church yesterday. I also wore these earrings and a set of bronze and pearl beaded bangles.

If this steal wasn’t enough, I’m pretty sure this weekend was my lucky weekend. On top of receiving my glads, I scored a pair of pretty yellow bowtie flats at Old Navy (this style, but yellow) for $1.97 (yeah, you read that right) and won one of four Mary Kay doorprizes hosted by ON Saturday.

Have any of you recently scored a super deal worth sharing/bragging about? I’m interested to hear (and possibly steal for myself)!

Wearing My Steals #01

I’ve decided to start posting some of my outfits, ones that are primarily made up of thrift scores, super sales, or hand-me-downs, in my continual efforts to encourage you all to try thrifting and buying clearance/sales items before paying full retail price for your clothing.

So, let’s get started, shall we?

P.S. No one gets to make fun of me since this is my first “style” post. I’ll make my disclaimer now: I am in no way to be considered a style/fashion blogger. Just a ridiculously frugal blogger sharing my finds and steals.

Okay, NOW let’s get started…

Dress: Sammydress $10.32
Peep-toe wedges: thrifted $3.99
Necklace: Caroline G boutique free with promo code
Earrings: LarqueByjason $12.00 with free shipping

A Layered Necklace Accident

Tory Burch Designer Inspired Open Clover Necklace in Gold : Apple of My Eye Jewelry
Long Oval Color Necklace in Coral : Quincee’s Boutique

This little mix came about by accident when I was swapping out necklaces Sunday morning before church. I first tried on the open clover necklace but wanted to see how the oval coral necklace would look as well. However, after putting on the oval necklace I decided I liked how the two looked together and voila! My first attempt to layer necklaces. So what do you think? A good accident or just a really bad clash of jewelry?

Here are also a few other pretty ways I’ve found to layer necklaces:

Happy layering!

{Thrifted} Peep Toe Flats

I scored these lovelies for a whole $3.99. The only flaw I could find was a little wear on the back of the wedge where the coloring has faded to a light tan (about the size of a dime). Simple fix: Grab a brown Sharpie. Just like new.

These are also super comfy and pair well with most of my Spring dresses and skirts.

I decided to scope out similar pairs to compare my savings. And I can easily say I am beyond happy with my little peeps and my four dollars obviously well spent.

peep toe flat1
Envy Chatter Box Flat – $75.00 (on sale for $45.95)

peep toe flat2
Ecote Interlace Peep-Toe Skimmer — $39.00 (on sale $14.99)

peep toe flat5
Tomasia Peep Toe Wedge — $109.00

peep toe flat6
Rieker 43266 Mary 66 — $110.00

That would be a savings of: $10.99 – $106.00. Going to pat myself on the back now.

I hope this inspires you to try thrift shopping for yourself. And I will warn you in advance, sometimes you come out with a load and other times maybe one or two pieces. Be persistent. Thrift scores will happen. For a little more encouragement, stay tuned to my next post… Thrift Haul for the Hubs.

Happy thrifting!

{Thrifted} Yellow Floral Maxi Skirt

I know today is Friday and Fridays are now supposed to be “Phototastic Fridays” on my blog. However, I decided to join PhotoChallenge 2013 to help keep me accountable for my PFs. Well, it just so happens that this week’s post challenge is “flora.” My previous Phototastic Friday post is a shot of my SIL’s bridal bouquet. Floral. So I ended up submitting that photo for this week’s challenge and will resume my Phototastic posts next Friday along with the new PC2013 challenge for that week.

Now for today’s post, which yesterday I promised would be a thrift post:

Call me an old lady if you must, but I love this skirt. I ADORE this skirt. It encompasses everything that I love in skirts. It is light (100% rayon). It flows beautifully. It’s yellow. Um, it’s FLORAL! My favorite color and favorite print in one? It just wins.

What else did you expect from me? Hippie-at-heart may be putting it lightly…

But here’s my problem with most maxi skirts:

They’re too long. This skirt worn this way is hiked up to where the belt sits on my natural waist.

Regardless, I do love it and I actually wore this outfit Easter Sunday.

But the more I thought about how to wear it, I decided to try it as a strapless dress. Mark another win for this girl! Now my thrifted old-ladyish maxi skirt can function two ways: as a skirt AND as a dress.

You can congratulate me now. I am one happy, happy girl.

Tips for Dress Season {my favorite}

Thank you GAP for getting me.

Big old-lady floral prints. Layers. I feel somewhat validated in my so-called “weird style” my sister says I have.

I’m also loving this color for Spring.

What would you call that color? Cobalt blue? Cornflower blue? Royal blue?

I have just the dress in this color in my stash to refashion. It poses a slight challenge, though. It’s a former bridesmaids dress made of all sorts of difficult material (you know, the dress from David’s Bridal… those materials). All I have to do is find it… Moving twice within two-years causes all sorts of difficulties in storing and finding what’s been stored.

What is your favorite color and/or trend for Spring?

{Thrifted} GAP flats + Date Night no. 2

I’ve been in the market for another pair of red flats since my first pair gave up the good fight back in 2008. Fast forward to 2013 and still no luck in finding “the pair” of red flats.

It’s quite serendipitous how I came to get my new pair…

The same day I decided to start my thrifting adventures again, so did my MIL and SIL. We even ended up at the same store but at different times during the day.

Later that night, as we do on most Saturday nights, Matthew and I grabbed up the kids to make the 1-mile trek to Granna and Paw-Paw’s house (my parents-in-law) to eat dinner. While Cindy was cooking she told me she and Holly had also been thrifting that day and she had bought a pair of flats that were too small for her. Later that evening she gave them to me to see if they would fit and as I laid eyes on them, perfectly intact and with no flaw, I knew we were simply meant to be.

Red flats : GAP {thrifted}

I make it sound like a love story because after owning a pair of red flats you come to love the feeling of wearing them. Oh so feminine and perfect for a subtle pop of color.

These are the perfect shade of red, not too bright or too dull. And the ruffles, oh how I love those little ruffles.

I wore them on our second date night.

You could turn away a sweet boy who wanted a photo taken with his dinosaur?

Matthew and I went out for dinner at one of his favorite Chinese restaurants, and I talked him into a short thrifting trip after. And as most parents do, we talked and laughed over the silly things our kids do and how weird it was not having them around. You start getting used to the screaming and their banche-like demeanor.

Crappy cell phone pic. He’s still quite a handsome fellow, though.
