Today Elisha had his Thanksgiving feast today at school. His little pilgrim outfit was a complete surprise along with all the other “pilgrims”, “Indians”, and “turkeys” for the parents and grandparents. Nana (my mom) and Granna (Matthew’s mom) got to surprise him by coming to eat at with him. Sadly, Daddy wasn’t able to come due to work but we do get him for 3 full days next week for Thanksgiving!

The Brooke Danielle Band | ultra-mini session

So I completely forgot about making this post! Two weeks ago (I think…) Brooke came up to me after church and asked if I could shoot a few photos of her band for an upcoming event flyer, and of course I obliged!

Brooke, I had a great time working with you all! Even if it was just a 20-minute, super-fast session.

Readers, be on the lookout for both Brooke and Matt’s senior photos coming up this Spring!

And also, be sure to check out this hot teen-country band for yourselves on Facebook, YouTube, and ReverbNation.

Christmas Tea Tablescape Inspiration

tablescape01-2

01) comes from The Country Basket which I think may end up being our main centerpiece for the table. Except instead of one main branch, we’ll have a vase of spray painted branches with gold ornaments hanging from them.
02) is by http://theslightlyobsessivebride.blogspot.com/ and is both ridiculously simple and a beautifully shabby chic accent. Simple pinecones gathered outside coated with metallic spray paint.
03) can be found on HGTV.com. I just want my entire house to look and feel like this.
04) is by Style Estate on their Top 100 Christmas Table Decorations, and could be easily replicated by painting or rolling candles in glitter glue, strands of metallic berries from places like Hobby Lobby or Michael’s, and a value pack of metallic ornaments from Wal-Mart.

tablescape02-2

05) is from a “Fairy Tale Wedding” compilation by Burnett’s Boards, but would work perfectly for our tablescape as well. Another shabby chic accent similar to the gold spray painted pinecones.
06) is by Bonjade‘s magazine post Christmas in the French Inspired Home. I have a smaller nativity that looks very similar to this one, which is why it caught my eye for our tablescape.
07) was taken from Radostina Bosseva’s flickr page, which is perfect for reusing/recycling those pumpkins we may have still lying around. Once again, gold spray paint and another shabby chic accent.

Weekend Birthday Haul

As you know from this earlier post, Saturday my mother-in-law Cindy, sister-in-law Holly, and I went on a “shopping spree” to celebrate my birthday. As much as I wanted to challenge myself by shopping places other than Old Navy, we ended up there and I scored the majority of my birthday haul. It was almost ordained by Heaven and impossible to resist because of their 30% off storewide sale over the weekend.

We first stopped at Maurice’s where I found this lovely pair of studs on clearance for only $2.99!

Then we stopped at JC Penny’s for Cindy to find a pair of new dress pants for work. There I picked up these two tops. The first is a long-sleeve button-up flannel shirt by St. John’s Bay and the second is a Boyfriend cardigan by Liz Claiborne, which hits about thigh-length on me since I’m only 5’3″. The back of the SJB button-up is about an 1-2 inches longer than the front, which makes it pair great with my black skinnies.

We hit several shoe stores in between JCP and Old Navy. Cindy and HJ had great success; however, I did not. I was on the lookout for a new black handbag but just couldn’t find one that I “just had to have” which is my selling point on most items I buy now. I guess it’s a new thing in my older age.

And lastly, my finds from Old Navy. I adore my new flats and have worn them almost non-stop since I bought them. And yes, I know I’m late on the chambray fad, but in my defense, like the black handbag, I just haven’t been able to find one that I knew I “just had to have” until I found this one. It’s the perfect shade between light denim and dark denim. And the skinny jeans, were more of a necessity buy. The only other pairs of jeans I have are my boot cut jeans, boyfriend jeans, and my maternity skinny jeans. And God knows I have vowed no more pregnancies. Two is good enough for me. Any more babies will be adopted.

Also, Jimmy, if you read my blog, just get me a gift card from ON for my Christmas gift because I left behind a green sweater that I’m literally mourning over. Thank you, sir!

{DIY} Upcycled Cozy Christmas Pillow

DSC_0033-2

Remember this pile of receiving blankets from this earlier post?

After making tons of upcycled bibs for my baby, my niece Lyla, and as gifts for a few new babies over the past year, I still have a good-sized pile at my disposal. Now that the temps are cooling way down and the holidays are just around the corner, I thought I could make a Christmas-themed pillow using one of the green blankets. I used this Pinterest idea here to stencil my lettering using simple stencils and a Sharpie.

To make the pillowcase, I folded the blanket lengthwise, sewed one short edge and the long open edge together, leaving one short edge open to insert my pillow. After I put the pillow in the case, I folded the open edges inward, pinned, and sewed the folded edges together. This way made it super easy to not only make a pillowcase but to line up the stripes in the material on the long edge.

This also could be easily replicated with fleece or another blanket-type material if you don’t have a spare blanket lying around. I also plan on using this pillow for my upcoming Christmas mini sessions along with a few other PInterest-inspired things.

OldNavy Birthday WishList

OldNavy Birthday WishList

wrap dress//open front sweater//sweatshirt//blue flannel shirt//skinny jeans//black flat//zip tote bag//scarf

My 27th birthday was Tuesday and Wednesday my mother-in-law and sister-in-law surprised me with a shopping spree and take-out dinner for this coming Saturday. It’s no secret that I love Old Navy, so I automatically decided that would be our first stop. However, if I did in fact go there first, all my birthday shopping spree money would be blown there and that would be the end of said shopping spree. So instead my plan is to make it my last stop/last resort kind of thing if I can’t find anything anywhere else. Obviously I did scope out Old Navy and put this together to share what I would buy if I did/do end up there.
Where would you suggest? The only other places on my list right now are Maurices and TJ Maxx.

Essentially, I’m loving boots, oversized sweaters, tights, and chunky scarves. Lace and leather. Tulle and plaid. Big knits and always, always floral.
